Van Morrison, irlandese di Belfast, ha iniziato la carriera musicale come cantante di un gruppo di grande successo nella prima era beat, negli anni ’60, i Them (loro grande e mai dimenticato successo, Gloria, ripreso anni dopo da Patti Smith), per poi iniziare una carriera solistica nel 1968 con l’originale album Astral Weeks. Con questo album e con i successivi Moondance e Tupelo Honey ha dato inizio ad una produzione del tutto originale, che mischiava per la prima volta blues, R&B, echi di folk celtico, rock, con la poetica mistica ed intimista degli originali testi, diventando così un importante punto di riferimento per tutta la musica moderna negli ultimi decenni del XX secolo ed oltre.
